Details | This work examines typologies of sentence structures based on adjective regency. By studying 2,600 of the most frequent adjectives in the CETÉMPublico corpus, 248 cases were identified as structures reflecting their traditional syntactic features, known as "regência adjetiva." The analysis results in 23 types of structure, as shown in the attached table. The analysis also shows 110 typical structures, where the predicative verbs such as "ser" and "estar" are used in combination with a noun clause introduced by "que," which usually uses the subjunctive mood, except for rare exceptions. These two structures have their own distribution of use, and this type of grammatical information of written norms ensures the correct transmission of ideas in Portuguese, not only between native speakers, but also for foreign Portuguese language learners. |
