概要 Importance of the bilateral economic relations between Japan and India was emphasized. It is why Japan has been offering economic and technical aid to India for a long period of time. Studies suggested that economic assistance from Japan has a unique feature of channelling inward private investments in the long-run, due to having much larger share of infrastructure projects within total ODA compared to other major donors in the world, and to intimacy of Japan’s private companies with its government and government policies. Whether there is a trend of Japan's ODA being a precursor to FDIs was investigated by comparing Japan-India relations with Japan-China, Japan-South Korea, Japan-Indonesia, Japan-Philippines, and Japan-Thailand ones. A positive outcome was derived that Japan's ODA is a precursor to having FDI flows into emerging markets, and such a trend could be found in the case with India.
