Details | The aim of this entertaining and visual lecture was to show an overview of the 2,000 year history of the English language, going through the five basic stages of its development, from the first Celtic and Roman (Latin) origins to Old English, the Norman conquest, Early Modern (Shakespearean) English, and finally the advent of English as a global language and Lingua Franca. Students have the chance to hear examples of the language used at different times and to understand that English has evolved and been influenced by over 350 other languages in the world. |
