概要 This paper investigates how emerging-market multinationals (EMMs) and developed-market multinationals (DMMs) differ in their acquisition choices when entering Japan. We hypothesize that EMMs prefer partial acquisitions, whereas DMMs prefer full acquisitions, driven by a country-of-origin effect. We also expect this effect to be stronger for smaller firms. Using data from 224 strategic cross-border acquisitions in Japan, our results support both hypotheses. The study adds to the literature on EMM behavior in developed markets.
