概要	There are number of problems associated with recycling, which can have a net negative impact on the environment. To consider the most serious of these, this paper will look at a number of policies from different parts of the world, including Japan, a country that has a strong reputation for its recycling, and where the author lives. By looking at some of the social, political, economic and commercial factors associated with recycling, this paper argues that there will often be negative outcomes if stakeholders place too much emphasis on this practice to solve the many environmental problems we face today. It will also show that we need to reconsider the relative importance given to recycling in general if we are to be effective protectors of the environment. In short, there needs to be a deeper understanding of recycling to ensure it isn’t viewed merely as an end in itself.
