| 概要 | We designed a unique instructional design incorporating the Academic Learning Cycle to promote self-regulated learning and implemented it with university students to encourage independent study time. Results from two empirical studies revealed that when instructor intervention was present (under the instructional design), self-regulated learning progressed and English proficiency improved. However, without instructor intervention, learners were unable to sustain self-regulated learning. Previous research suggested that self-regulated learning progresses when learners are motivated, possess high metacognition, and can utilize learning strategies. Yet, due to the high level of heteronomy among Japanese learners, it was found that learning was unlikely to occur even when these conditions were met. |
