概要 | Peace education is inquiry-led, preferring, like the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, to ask questions rather than stating opinions. It is also driven by ethics.The paper seeks to explain using examples of current peace education practices. The celebrated Peace Educator Betty Reardon holds that the primary purposes of peace education should be the development of peacemaking capacities. The conversation needs to look not
only to the manifestations and proposed alternatives to a culture of violence, but most especially it needs to probe beneath the manifestations of the deep culture. It needs, as well, to explore the root values and worldviews of the culture of violence and the proposed alternatives. We need to address behaviors and strategies that are self-consciously transformational rather than oppositional and just to reinforce this point, anyone can criticize and complain, few are brave enough to act on their principles. |
