概要	By portraying the change in the narrator-protagonist, "The Piazza" aims at overturning the European concept of the picturesque and the sublime in art. The greatness of nature does not really exist in this story. The story suggests that instead of confronting the awesome might of nature to mature and demonstrate bravery, man should face reality and not be absorbed with thoughts. Hence, this story could be read as a protagonist's spiritual growth toward becoming a mature man. In addition, the story warns of the danger of expanding the imagination through the prevalent concept of Transcendentalism. (B5)
