概要 | It explained Taiwan’s attempt to go nuclear under mainly Chiang Kai-shek, despite the US's persistent pressure to stop it. This program was finally terminated when Lee Teng-hui became President. It was a somewhat halting effort, but the motivation was clear. It had a genuine fear of nuclear China. Japan's case was also explained; however, it was not an effort to develop it at all. It merely did policy analysis and research if it is beneficial for Japan to have nukes. All the reports have unanimously concluded that it would be detrimental and thus Japan should not do it. Japan, however, maintained latent nuclear capabilities, which might function as a sort of deterrence not to provoke her. |
