概要	Japan is legally constrained in its activities in a Taiwan contingency, despite widespread assumption/expectation that Japan will be of great help to Taiwan. Japan can now exercise a limited right of collective self-defense due to the 2015 security laws. But Taiwan is not recognized as a sovereign state, and therefore, the right of collective self-defense will not be applied in principle. Moreover, Japan must go through a time-consuming procedure to exercise this right. So,, what Japan can do may be very limited.
