Details | This article examines how CIA’s intelligence analysis was used to formulate the Eisenhower administration’s Cold War strategy. The CIA under the administration was deeply incorporated into the policy-making mechanism centered on the National Security Council (NSC). And the CIA, providing objective intelligence analysis for the NSC, made it possible for the president to avoid excessive response to the missile gap crisis caused by the Soviet launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957. |
