Details The paper examines the musical performances of Esperanza Spalding who is the jazz bassist and the Grammy winner as the representations of American identities during the Obama administration. She has, indeed, been attempting to combine some aspects of her various backgrounds and music to create a new American image which represents the keyword so called “Change”. In 2017, however, United States is about to be changed again. It seems to turn out that US reproduces its history. I would like to indicate the unstable identities of the State through Esperanza Spalding’s music performances.
