Details | The purpose of this paper is to report on the transition process from print to digital books in a university-wide extensive reading program. Because of lack of access to the university extensive reading library during the pandemic, an extensive reading program run through the online extensive reading system, Xreading, replaced the previous extensive reading management system, M-Reader.Differences observed in the data showed that students read significantly fewer words but far more books on average with digital books than a similar cohort previously did with paper-based books. It also showed that there was a slight but significant decrease in intrinsic motivation amongst learners when reading digital books versus paper-based ones. |
