Details | In a recent research project on the teaching of Spanish and Latin American literature at Japanese universities we discovered a constant concern among the teachers of these subjects: eight of the eighteen teachers surveyed alluded explicitly to the lack of reading practice (even in Japanese) of the students of the new generations; another four of them commented on the lack of motivation towards literature or written texts in general. This led me to become interested in the field of extensive reading (more known as Extensive Reading -ER- in English). Taking advantage of the fact that in our university there are two research groups on the topic with extensive reading programs in English and French, I decided to take advantage of their experience and advice, and implement in steps a similar program for the Spanish department. |
