Title	Intertextuality, Dialogism, and Cognitive Poetics in the Contemporary Novel:Bernardo Carvalho, Eduardo Lago and Mario Bellatín

Details	This dissertation examines the use of intertextuality in four novels by three contemporary authors: Brazilian Bernardo Carvalho, Spanish Eduardo Lago and Mexican-Peruvian Mario Bellatín. We analyze the construction of their stories, specifically the transformation of their hypotexts. In the case of Carvalho's O sol se põe em São Paulo, Japanese writer Tanizaki Junichiro's Quicksand is used for an implicit debate about identity, suicide, and fiction, which are metanarratively discussed. Using the Theory of the Scheme, symmetries between Lago's Siempre supe que volvería a verte, Aurora Lee, and Nabokov's Pale Fire are established. Besides, the Theory of the Cognitive Metaphor is used to explain the motif of the nose in Bellatín's intertextual novel Nagaoka Shiki: una nariz de ficción, as the introduction of Western ideas in Japan.
