Details This article examines how CIA’s intelligence analysis was used to formulate the Eisenhower administration’s Cold War strategy. And the CIA, providing objective intelligence analysis for the NSC, made it possible for the president to avoid excessive response to the missile gap crisis caused by the Soviet launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957.
