| Details | Promotion of Detente or confrontation with the Soviet Union? In the mid-1970s, when the controversy over national strategy arose, hardliners against the Soviet Union criticized the CIA for underestimating the Soviet threats. This thesis examines this case and reveals that CIA, which is expected to provide objective analysis by keeping itself away from political debate, is not able to fulfill the expected duty once its analysis becomes the target of political debate. |
