Contribution Type Multiple author(s)
Journal TypeJapan
Volume, Issue, Page pp.81-90
Details Mio, Wakayama is known as one of the largest single sources of pre-World War 2 Japanese migrants to Canada. This paper argues for the academic contributions of migration researchers to society after showing how these communities have dealt with the issues of depopulation and aging population through the mobilization of migration-related cultural resources. Migration researchers as practitioners of conducting community-based research have a vital role in the economic revitalization and heritage preservation of Mio and beyond by sharing and utilizing the research results of academic work.
