Details | A historical walk that started at the bottom of the stone steps of Yasaka Shrine at the east end of Shijo-dori. This episode is a discussion of the clock tower, which was often seen in the town until around the middle of the Showa period.
In this article, we introduce three photo postcards showing the clock tower of Shijo-dori. The film traces the historical transition of the time signal as a symbol of power → a symbol of authority, and as we enter an era in which ordinary people have the means to know the time as individuals, we follow the trend of the gradual disappearance of the clock tower. |
