| Details | A historical walk that started at the bottom of the stone steps of Yasaka Shrine at the east end of Shijo-dori. In this installment, I will explain how Shijo-dori, which was a narrow road, was transformed by the three major projects in Kyoto, based on photographic postcards.
The dramatic change in Shijo-dori will be accompanied not only by the widening of the road, but also by the modernization of the cityscape. Old postcards showing the Fujii Daimaru Department Store as a landmark are introduced in chronological order and the footsteps of modernization are traced. |
