Details A case study with 17 Japanese university students of Spanish used group dynamics theory and a network approach, analyzed through quantitative sociology and ethnography. The low‑motivation groups showed weak cohesion and marked internal conflict. The main factors were members’ rivalry, internal subgroup formation, leader influence, and differences in cultural and educational backgrounds.
