Details | Why do humans and animals expend extra energy to play? Although play as a creative source is a possible answer, how individual play affects team creativity remain unclear. Previous study showed that “intuitive modeling”, or playful behavior in the sense of not thinking things too seriously and not acting in a goal-oriented manner, promotes utterances about abstract concepts during collaboration, which may affect the team creativity. In our experiments with LEGO blocks, we examine the effects of three factors on team creativity: play, think with hands, and recursive combination. The differences among the conditions in utterances data, the final products and their explanations (a.k.a., storytelling) in the collaborative phase are analyzed. This study contributes to understanding the relationship between play and team creativity. |
