Details In May 2021, as the Certifying Authority, Osaka University of Tourism awarded the "ISO 13611:2014 Guidelines for Interpreters - Community Interpreters" certification to interpreters in public health in a bilingual combination of Japanese, English, Portuguese or Chinese. The purpose of this paper is to answer the research question of what effects the above aptitude test has before the awarding of multilingual ISO13611:2014 certification issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) by higher education institutions. In particular, the authors analyse the Aptitude Test to measure the language proficiency of community interpreting service providers and examine the training of community interpreters in the curriculum of universities of higher education.
