Details This paper discusses the scheme of collaboration between industry, academia, and the government for the control of infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis, in post-World War II Japan and its results. The paper demonstrates how industry-academia-government collaboration contributed to public health and promoted the growth of the pharmaceutical industry by reviewing the history of infectious disease control in postwar Japan. This case study illustrates the importance of a multifaceted approach to infectious disease control and the effectiveness of cross-sector collaboration.
