概要	It is not unusual to encounter publications inspired by or aimed at the perceived lack of motivation to study found among Japanese university students. This report attempts to explore the reasons for low levels of student motivation and suggests that it could at least partly be viewed as a consequence of the combined influence of the education system in particular, and the work culture found in Japanese companies. A survey designed to test whether such a description can be supported in any way, as well as to investigate specific program level issues that may influence student motivation, was administered to 98 students. The results of the survey appear to broadly support the description, and indicate possible avenues for fresh thinking with regard to meeting student needs.
