| Details | This study reports an exploratory investigation involving 31 learners at international schools in Japan (25 EAL learners and 6 native speakers of English). Participants were assessed on four factors commonly associated with reading comprehension: vocabulary knowledge, word decoding, passage comprehension, and general language ability. The results showed that variability in reading comprehension scores was more strongly explained by differences in vocabulary knowledge than by the other factors, highlighting the central role of vocabulary in reading performance. |
