| Details | This paper reports a qualitative study investigating the writing experiences, perceptions, and practices of eight university students studying English in the Kansai region of Japan. Through semi-structured interviews, students were asked to reflect on their writing backgrounds, writing processes, and rhetorical choices. The analysis revealed that some students entered university with no experience writing academic texts in either Japanese or English, suggesting a need for greater exposure to academic writing within writing courses. |
