概要 In discussing the organizational resilience of small medium sized enterprises (SMEs), many researchers argue that strategic orientation may be a key factor, but they mainly focus on growth strategies, innovation, strategic pivots, or new business creation. The concept of small business orientation (SBO) of SMEs proposed by Runyan and Covin may reveal new resilience effects of the strong and long-term commitment of SMEs to unique business values, customers, and stakeholders under crisis. Examining features of survival companies in 211 small companies in local lodging industry in Kyoto, the global tourism destination, we find local and small lodging companies with SBO are more likely to survive than young ones with a rapid growth orientation Kyoto during the COVID-19 pandemic.
