| 概要 | This research explores university-led community engagement programs in Asia Pacific, in an effort to explore program paradigms across the region. The researchers share the initial vision and some best practices discovered upon visits to universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia and Japan. How are their community engagement programs contextualized to improve effectiveness and long-term sustainability? Are there any common threads to an Asia Pacific approach, which may include efforts to fill health care information deficits for the poor, as in Malaysia, government imperatives for students to embed with local communities and share their skills, as in Indonesia and VIetnam, student advocacy for indigenous residents, as in Australia, and efforts to help revitalize depopulated rural villages, as in Japan? And, finally, despite societal and geographical differences, are there lessons to be learned for community engagement staff, students and faculty in the US? |
