概要 | Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) partnerships are increasing as post-secondary institutions look to meet strategic planning goals of internationalizing, interculturalizing and enhancing global competencies on campus. COIL partnerships allow students to learn in a globally networked classroom in the form of virtual mobility. However, the core curricular work of embedding a successful international online learning experience needs to be carried forward by the two faculty partners (Rubin, 2017). A willingness to commit to a journey with pedagogical, cultural and technological challenges is essential for faculty-to-faculty COIL partnerships to flourish. The two presenters will discuss navigating their COIL process from design to post-project reflection for their seven-week asynchronous project. The two professors, who live and teach in two different countries (Canada and Japan), whose students were in different majors (Global Issues and Child, Youth & Community Worker) and had different levels of English will also share their reasons for undertaking a COIL project, and their thoughts on the intercultural takeaways. This information will be useful for faculty who would like to attempt a similar undertaking with their own students as well as administrators/support staff who wish to learn more about the faculty perspective of globally connected classrooms. |
