概要 | The paper reports the findings of a two-year qualitative study into university students’ learning processes, and possible motivating factors, which play key roles in determining their learning patterns. Multiple data, such as interviews, not only with students but also teachers, and students’ word counts, their responses to survey questions and their TOEIC scores are used. The interview data after the first semester found that, such factors as a big gap in teaching approach between high schools and the university, were identified as factors which changed their perception about reading in a foreign language. In the data collected after the 2nd and 3rd semesters of ER, teacher-related factors seemed to have played major roles in determining their motivation for reading and their engagement patterns. |
