| 概要 | The Young Global Researchers Project (YGRP) is an authentic community engagement initiative designed to bring students and educators together to explore pressing societal issues and the actions required to address them. Through direct interaction with individuals and organizations in their local communities, student participants engage in field research, work with primary sources, and communicate both their own experiences and the perspectives of others through writing and various forms of media published on the internet and in print - all in English.
In this presentation, we aim to show how the YGRP meets the core Task-Based Language Teaching principles of being meaning-focused, having authentic use, and being learner centered (Ellis, 2003), while giving students a real-world learning experience communicated to others through real-world means. Along the way, we’ll show how the experience was scaffolded, through the introduction of interview support materials, to enable learners to more effectively engage with the community they chose to perform their research in. We will also share tips with fellow educators on how best to embed an experiential research project into a task-based framework in order to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and reflection. |
