概要 Focusing on local narratives (stories told by local people) in forest education programs, an investigation was conducted into elements that are effective in fostering children’s attachment to the local forest. A study of the ‘Yamanoko’ program for fourth-grade students, using pre- and post-program surveys, showed that children gained insights into the connection between the forest and local life through the stories told by volunteer instructors. Local narratives, which are personal stories, have the potential to encourage an understanding of the local ecosystem, including the forest and the entire watershed.
