概要	This presentation examined the background of Japanese volunteer learning and the short-term service learning programs conducted at some Japanese universities: Japanese community engagement. There are so many kinds of projects in Japan, such as volunteer learning, service learning, community engagement, and study abroad or oversees project. Each project has set a specific purpose. Volunteer work should give a service to a local region effectively, and the goal of study abroad is just learning language or understanding a local culture. Service learning, however, needs both and additionally, to grasp a sense of citizenship. This is completely different from volunteer learning projects.
