概要 Using M- Reader to Motivate Students to Read Extensively”. M-Reader is an online quiz system that allows teachers and students to keep track of their reading progress. This presentation described a trial program using M-Reader at a small, private university in Japan. After explaining the initial set-up and implementation of the program, the presentation provided survey results from students that reveal their first impressions of the M-Reader system. Although many students recognized a number of advantages of M-Reader over traditional methods of assessment such as book reports, slightly more of the students indicated that they would prefer book reports over M-Reader. Their main criticisms of M-Reader included the difficulty of the quizzes and the limitation on the number of quizzes that could be taken each day. These results suggest that students need more instruction on the basic principles of Extensive Reading before M-Reader is able to reach its full potential to motivate them to read extensively.
