概要	This presentation claims that the previous studies do not reflect the actual usage of be bound to: the quasi-modal is primarily used to show inevitability. In order to verify this, this study first examines be bound to through extensive data from English movies. Furthermore, this presentation points out that the deontic meaning of the target phrase is derived from and related to the passive of the verb bind. Based on the findings confirmed by this study, the discussion focuses on how this modal expression should be introduced in English teaching.
