概要 | One of the most common worries students express is the fear that they are not learning enough new vocabulary. This presentation will look at ways to address this by focusing on what it means to know a word, what words we should teach, and when they should be taught. Then it will consider the amount of review and revision necessary to fully remember and be able to use a word productively. Additionally, suggestions for how to motivate students to become excited about acquiring new words will be introduced, and the presentation will close with the introduction of two practical, low-technology ways to review vocabulary to facilitate this; specifically the use of student-created flashcards, and a detailed keeping of vocabulary notebooks. The flashcards provide a social, motivating way of seeing a measurable improvement in vocabulary acquisition, while the notebooks allow the learners to customize and curate their learning. These techniques also encourage autonomy in the learners, letting them prioritize what words they feel are useful for them. |
