Details After a public conference by Susumu Shimazono (Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, Director of the Institute of Grief Care, Sophia University) whose title was "Compassion and Non-violence: For a Modern Understanding of Japanese Buddhism's Ethical Thought-", the public symposium of the 20th Congress of the Japan Association of Religion and Ethics started. Following Yoshitsugi Sawai (Professor, Tenri University) and Katsuhiro Kohara (Professor, Doshisha University), I commented on the conference and then I spoke about compassion and non-violence in Japanese Buddhism. The moderator was Nobuyoshi Takada (Professor Emeritus, Ryukoku University).
