概要 This paper reports on a project in which researchers at universities in Japan explored ways to incorporate experimental Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) practices for improving students’ scores on the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test with existing language skill-building courses by developing a new module for an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course for first-year university students called English Seminar. A Nintendo DS mobile device and its software called ‘DS More Training for the TOEIC Listening and Reading Tests’ were used and a six-step learning module was designed and implemented in order to foster students’ self-study and its productive subset, self-regulated learning. On the basis of the findings of pre- and post-TOEIC testing, a post-course student evaluation of the methodology, and interviews with students, it can be claimed that the Nintendo DS mobile device and the learning module fostered self-study.
