Details Starting from Lubomir Doležel's classification study of the double in the context of narrative possible worlds, it is possible to analyze the narrative figure of the double in contemporary works of hypertextual character. In the case of Bernardo Carvalho's novel O sol se põe em São Paulo, and Eduardo Lago's Siempre supe que volvería a verte, Aurora Lee, their characters are affected by transformations in relation with the texts they originally refer to. On the one hand, the "figures in loan" are already the hypotext's doubles; on the other hand, there is an increase in the number of actants that tends to converge. The narrative formation of the double in bothe novels and the readers' perception of those fragmented identities can also be explained with theories from the field of Cognitive Science applied to Literary Studies.
