Details	Williams(1976) は共感覚表現の制約について、warm colorのように触覚から他の感覚への写像は可能であるが、red temperatureのような逆方向の現像は困難だという体系性を示した。共感覚表現の制約を６ヵ国語について調査し、それらが汎言語的傾向を持つことを示す。また、「生理＝心理モデル」を用い、この制約が解剖学的・生理学的基盤を持つ可能性を論じる。
