Details	As interest in using learner corpora for material development grows (Pérez-Paredes, 2022), two challenges have emerged: (i) issues with comparison to FLE speaker texts (Hou et al., 2016), and (ii) the rarity of comparisons between spoken and written language (Garner & Crossley, 2018). To address these challenges, a large-scale longitudinal corpus was used, collecting texts from Japanese first-year university students (N = 478). Data was linked to participants' demographic and linguistic information and analyzed to understand vocabulary and multi-word expression (MWE) needs at proficiency levels (Siyanova-Chanturia & Spina, 2019). Results are expected to inform material development.
