Details	This presentation describes research on 73 high school students (57 EAL, 16 FLE) studying at two international schools in Japan. Multiple regression analysis results showed that vocabulary was a statistically significant predictor of academic achievement. Residuals showed that this relationship weakens at lower frequency bands for EAL learners. This was examined by comparing existing frequency lists with learners' vocabulary profiles. The presentation concludes with proposals aimed at mitigating some of the issues revealed by this research.
