| Details | The presenter described research examining 73 high school students (57 EAL, 16 First Language English (FLE)) studying at two international schools in Japan. Participants were assessed according to four factors: vocabulary knowledge (Updated Vocabulary Levels Test (uVLT); Webb et al., 2017), word decoding ability (Single Word Reading Test (SWRT); Snowling et al., 2009), reading comprehension (York Assessment of Reading Comprehension (YARC); Snowling et al., 2009), and general language proficiency (C-test; Trakulphadetkrai et al., 2017). Multiple regression analysis results showed that vocabulary was a statistically significant predictor of academic achievement, particularly for EAL learners. |
