Details	This presentation examines differences between English teachers and first-year Japanese university students in their expectations regarding effective use of logic in academic writing tasks. The study compares samples of first-year academic writing produced in both L1 classes and English classes. By closely analyzing the relationship between knowledge of L1 and L2 writing, we aim to help teachers better understand how to teach challenging yet essential skills for academic writing. The presentation also discusses ways to incorporate these findings into classroom practice to make the teaching of academic writing more effective and accessible.
