概要 Japan shares geographic features with countries like Panama, Italy, and Fiji, particularly the presence of volcanoes due to tectonic plate boundaries. These geological factors contribute to Japan’s abundant precipitation and lush forests, which cover about 70% of the country. These forests, especially the Satoyama landscapes, play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, supporting wildlife, and providing numerous environmental benefits. However, climate change is causing the expansion of bamboo forests, which threatens existing biodiversity and ecological balance. The deep connection between Japanese people and their natural surroundings is exemplified through the culturally significant Satoyama, managed forests nurtured by local agricultural communities.
