Details | This open lecture explored the history of tourism and the tourist industry in Japan, starting over one thousand years ago with imperial health and religious tourism. We examined types of traveling and internal (domestic) cultural exchange through the Tokugawa era, and up to the present day in the 20th century. Finally, we looked at the birth of the modern domestic and international tourism economy in Japan since WWII and the boom in travel since the 1964 Olympics. |
