Item	Planning and Organization of a Conference by Prof. Sergio Quezada (Center for Social Sciences Research, Autonomous University of Yucatán)
Details	As part of the activities of the Center for Latin American Studies of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, we invited Prof. Sergio Quezada of the Autonomous University of Yucatán to present a conference titled “The Maya during the Conquest: From Personal Bonds (Interpersonalism) to Territorial Bonds (Territorialism).” He explained that Pre-Columbian Maya society functioned primarily on the basis of personal ties between kings and their subjects, or between chieftains and peasants, He explained that with the onset of the colonial era, the Spanish restricted the movement of indigenous peoples and confined them to specific “villages” (pueblos), causing the identity of “villagers” to shift toward a sense of connection centered on the place where they settled (as reflected in the village’s name). A total of 23 people participated in the hybrid lecture, combining in-person and online attendees.
